Ever since the pandemic, the workforce has took a major hit.
Many jobs and places are understaffed, fast food joints don't have enough workers on the floor to handle the orders, stores don't have enough people to keep them open on a regular basis with them having enough employees to attend to all customers that need help, etc.
Now we know that during the pandemic, a lot of workers got laid off from work. A lot of people collected unemployment checks, and the Federal Reserve bank printed money (inflation) non-stop.
The president that we had during that time believes in lower borrowing rates, so that the government could take out more money to spend. That monetary policy really drained the United States before, and especially during the pandemic.
Everything got more expensive, and didn't climb back down.
Having a "regular" job like at the store or at an eating establishment or anything that pays around minimum wage just cannot afford you anything now.
Groceries, rent, insurance, any other expenses will kill your wallet today. Even people making six figures are living paycheck to paycheck, something we never thought we would see! Trillionaries are effectively just the next billionaires now lol.
And we of course have the debt crisis where tons of people are either in medical debt, college debt, credit card debt, locked into some type of mortgage, etc.
When spending the time and money to go to college doesn't even guarentee a succesful future anymore, and working just a regular job will never truly afford you a place to stay (MEANING LAND, THE ONE THING THAT YOU OWN OF VALUE.), or even afford a car, then it's like why bother?
When they say that you will "own nothing and be happy", they are referring to how you will never truly own your own home. You'll never be able to afford the nice things that rich and powerful individuals have.
Now couple all of this with the AI BOOM, where employees are still being laid off and replaced with AI. Computer science honestly isn't even a field you can realistically get into anymore!
Lets say that a young person just got out of school. And they see the economy with the bandaid ripped off (poor Millenials had the bandaid ripped off right after they went to college and got in debt :c), what is that young person (so what happened to Gen Z) going to do?
Are they just going to accept their fate and work at a regular job for some boss for the next few decades? Probably not. They see no point in participating in a system where hard work won't pay off.
I don't think this makes them lazy by any means. Unless they of course don't keep up on their own hygeine, don't do things around their house, and don't help friends/family when they could.
I really don't care if someone wants to stay at home. The fact that the economy is still afloat with so many people out of work is honestly impressive to me. Their life doesn't impact mine, and while they may be lonely and have nothing to do, it's their free will if they decide to get a job.
Want to get more people in the workforce? I'm sure that if you could afford things with a job then a lot of people would be working right now. How do you fix this system? Not without an overhaul, that's for sure....
