Humans are losing their ability to feel. Not just to feel bad for others, not just to understand their emotions, but we're losing our empathy and compassion. We are heading toward something deeply disturbing, like 1984, Brave New World, but even darker.
And I believe that the 2 biggest factors in this trend would be (1) Technology, referring of course to computers and that sort of entertainment, and also (2) Politics, which of course has been propped up by media platforms.
This isn't just family or friends not communicating anymore (which is bad), but something far worse. We have became denatured to death. And in the realm of what we now call politics, we have seen this horrible trait exacerbate, from people of all walks and opinions.
Thomas M. Crooks attempts to end Trump, and while he failed, I couldn't help but to sympathize for a young neurodivergent child who thought they were saving people. He did end up killing a father who was at the rally by the name of Corey Comperatore.
And the general consensus that I saw from people was "that man was fascist, he deserved to die for his horrible opinions." In which that man was a literal father. And even if not everyone felt that way, as I know the media loves to show only the worst in people and the world, the fact that ANYONE felt that way is disturbing.
And then we have the actual reaction to Crook's death itself, with MAGA cheeringthe child getting gunned down. In which I know not everyone was enthralled with that outcome, but the idea of cheering death is something that will become more evident and bipartisan.
Luigi Mangione guns down United Healthcare CEO, Brian Thompson. And so many people of all walks of life cheered his death.
The American healthcare system is atrocious. People have died because they couldn't afford treatments that they needed. I totally understand the disdain toward the healthcare system.
But Brian Thompson was a man that practically no one ever heard of before this, and not too many people really knew of United Healthcare either. People just saw a rich guy get blown in the back, and cheered it on. People wanted blood. Brian was the sacrifice. Did this stop America's horrible healthcare system? No. Will someone else take over? Yes.
If someone doesn't sympathize for a rich man dying like that, I won't bark at them too aggresively. But Thompson was a father, and had a family, and was a man that most people never even heard of before this.
It just makes me think of the hate from 1984, where everyone is trying to find a scapegoat or someone to blame for their unhappiness. In '84, it was Goldstein, in 2024, it was Thompson.
Do I think that Mangione was a terrible guy? This goes off topic but getting straight to the point, no. I don't hate Mangione, and I feel like I know why he did what he did. But while I don't think he's a bad person, he did something that was bad. Maybe I'll get more in depth with him at some point.
Charlie Kirk was murdered in cold blood on September 10th, 2025. Now, with this being just a blog (aka my own opinion), I'll admit that I don't think Kirk was a great man. But I don't think he was a terrible man either. He was just a man. Well, he was also a father to two babies.
If someone didn't like Kirk, I don't blame them. But he wasn't like a purely evil guy either. He was at best, just like a bully in some regards. But he had his moments, and saying offensive things shouldn't guarantee the punishment of death.
Like you don't have to listen to what he says, and I think that people like Rogan or Musk played a bigger part in getting Trump elected than Kirk, those guys literally gave Kirk a platform as well.
Just seeing so many people dance on his grave was so disturbing to me, I even saw one post on TikTok of someone who thought his entire family should've gotten killed.
No parents deserve to go without their child, no kids deserve to go without their mother or father, and no one should have to lose a friend.
The first one in chronology, but the last one I wanted to list. When a police officer openly killed George Floyd (who originally had the cops called on him over a counterfeit $20 bill) in cold blood. And the gaslighting from that incident was insane.
People tried to say that Chauvin couldn't have actually killed Floyd, and that he either had Covid, or had drugs in him, or that the camera angle made it all look worse, or whatever theories that there was.
And there were even some people who believed that he deserved it for his criminal past. I just cannot believe, cannot fathom that anyone would've been ok with what happened. You can support police officers while also acknowledging that what Chauvin did was horrific. But some people just wouldnt....
These murders point toward a haunting trend of politics justifying the death of someone, and at that point you have talking points and narratives valued more than the sanctity of human life and affection.
But the issue of how technology played a part in this needs to be fully understood. Social media, and even news outlets fuel the flames by propping up the worst things possible, this much should be obvious.
But due to our vast access to footage, we can see men die in real time. We can see the deaths of Thompson, Crooks, Floyd, or anyone else killed in an attack all on our phones.
We have TV, videogames that show off violence and glorify it. And I'm not saying that games or movies would make someone kill, but being exposed to that level of violence could certainly denature someone to death. Meaning that someone dying or getting killed just won't even phase people at this point in time, which things SHOULD NOT BE THAT WAY.
I know that throughout human history, we have been very bloody. We have killed tons of people in wars over the thousands of years, whether it was about power, or resources and survival.
But it seemed like men started to finally recognize eachother all has creations of God, at least for a brief period of time. And even ancient humans at least respected their tribe, even if not other humans. People now won't talk to their own family over this stuff.
I don't want us to live in a world where we cheer death, and harm others, but there seems to be a growing apathy crisis on the rise. It doesn't matter what you believe in, Demonic influence, and authoritarianism (fascism) all thrive off of anger and hate. I believe that at least coming together, and caring about other people is the first step to fight back against this evil.
